Sahara’s is modeled after the original Sahara’s restaurant in Brooklyn that opened well over twenty years ago. The chef started cooking at the age of twelve in Iznir, Turkey, which isnot far from Istanbul.

The chef started at Turkish Kitchen, and moved to Sahara’s where he has worked for almost two years. He recommends you try the lamb dishes featuring special herbs, and notes that everything on the menu is freshly made. In addition, only olive oil is used in the cold appetizers and salads. Doner Kebab (Classic Turkish Gyro)—Marinated lamb and beef grilled on revolving skewer, and thinly sliced with rice and vegetables
Tavuk Sis (Chicken Kebab)—Marinated chunks of chicken char-grilled and served with rice and vegetables
Iskender Kebab (Iskender Kebab)—Grilled lamb sliced very thin and served with garlic yogurt and tomato sauce on pita bread
Karides Guvec (Shrimp Casserole)—Oven-baked shrimp casserole with mushrooms, peppers and tomatoes, topped with kashar cheese and served with rice
Sigara Boregi (Cheese Pastries)—Pan-fried cigar shaped crispy pastries stuffed with feta cheese

Humus (Hummus)—Chickpeas puree seasoned with garlic, tahini, olive oil and lemon
Patlican Salatasi (Eggplant Salad)—Char-grilled smoked eggplant mixed with chopped red pepper, dill, garlic olive oil and lemon
Iman Bayildi (Stuffed Baby Eggplant)—Whole baby eggplant stuffed with tomatoes, onions, pine nuts, garlic, parsley and gently cooked in olive oil
Food is excellent, but with a $20 minimum, I won't be ordering it any more.

The delivery is consistently the fastest. Usually takes somewhere between 15 to 20 minutes. The food is fresh and delicious. I usually stick to kebabs, but eggplant salads are soo tasty and the calf's liver appetizer is unexpectedly yummy.

I used to go here and order from them regularly, but for some reason this place NEVER includes yogurt and pepper sauce, which is needed for the good, but somewhat dry, Doner. Asking doesn't help. In fact, it lowers your chance of getting the sauces. I just stopped bothering with this place.

Gyro meat was tasty, though dry, and the overall dish was a bit oily. The requested yogurt and chili sauces never showed.
