At Nomad, you’ll feel the charm of the Mediterranean cuisine and the North African desert together with the fire of the people, the warmth of the hues and the passion in the cooking. The ambiance of this authentic outpost of North Africa in the heart of the East Village is created through a combination of the artwork of Alex Weiss’ wall paintings, imported artwork from Morocco and the carved ironwork of Steal Neal.
The heart of the menu offers the choices of grills, couscous and tajines, all traditional North African delicacies, but for those interested in branching out a little, both the brik (flaky Tunisian turnover) and the chakchouka (Algerian sausage stew) are excellent alternatives. So make Nomad the next stop on your wandering journey through the food options of New York.
Beef and Lamb Boureks—Flaky pastry stuffed with spiced ground beef and lamb, harissa sauce
Brik—Crispy fillo dough pyramid stuffed with tuna packed in olive oil, capers, potatoes and egg
Zaalouk Salad—Roasted eggplant with tomato, arugula and balsamic vinaigrette
Chicken Kebabs—Cooked on the grill and served with saffron rice, peppers and onions
Lamb and Prunes Tajine—Fragrant stew simmered with spices and herbs
Merguez Couscous—Spicy North African sausage served with steamed semolina and slow simmered broth
Small portions and not particularly good.

The saffron grilled shrimp is quite nice. The chickpea cakes served in the dish is very tasty. My only wish is that they were bigger portions. The spicy mayonnaise that came with this dish was tasty. The mergeuz and couscous is actually quite healthy as the vegetables are steamed. The sauce comes on the side which is very smart as the dish does not become soggy in transit. If I had better self control with the broth then I could have had a relatively healthy meal.
