Celebrated for her 3-star desserts, Heather Carlucci-Rodriguez’s pastry chef resume reads like a history of New York’s most esteemed eateries. She began her culinary education at the Restaurant School in Philadelphia before traveling to France to complete her education in Burgundy and Paris. A pastry position at Tom Colicchio’s Mondrian and a pastry chef gig at Union Square Cafe set the tone for an illustrious career.

Over the next 15 years she created desserts at L’Impero, Veritas and Judson Grill—each receiving 3 starsfrom The New York Times — as well as working for a consultant for France’s Michel Cluizel Chocolat and Domori Chocolate in Bologna, Italy. For her first personal venture, Heather opened Lassi, a tiny take-out restaurant featuring Northern Indian home cooking. “Even though she is an unlikely Indian restaurant owner, she’s a passionate one”, wrote Rob Patronite and Robin Raisfeld of New York Magazine, adding “Her food tastes unlike any other Indian restaurant in town — fresher, cleaner but undiluted in its intricately spiced essence.”
Two months into the life of Lassi, Heather asked cook Adrienne Anderson to become her sous-chef and math instructor. Adrienne said yes, provided she’d never have to wear vinyl in the kitchen and that Heather would be in charge of useless trivia. That balance must have worked — in March 2006 New York Magazine named Lassi Best Take-Out in New York City.

Good food, well executed, however very expensive for what it is, and a painfully limited menu. Needs to try harder with better options (and prices that reflect the cost of the ingredients used to make the food) to garner my thumbs up.

I never, ever write reviews on anything, but I was completely disgusted by the food from Lassi. I eat Indian several times a month and Murg Makhani is my favorite food in the world. We got the Murg Makhani and Shahi Chicken and I can't decide which was worse. They both tasted old and burnt and I couldn't have more than three bites of either one. What a waste of $30! I think the reviews must be fixed because both dishes were terrible. I feel bad posting this, but I wouldn't want anyone to make the same mistake as we did.

This place has the smallest portions, it's worth noting. The small mango lassi, for instance, comes in what appears to be a large sauce container. I would avoid ordering from here altogether.

I've ordered from here several times now, and the food's been consistently tasty and always promptly delivered. Highly recommended.

Overpriced and of unimpressive quality. Better places available!

The secret's out! A great North Indian, one of the best take-outs for any food in New York. I swear by it. Food is fantastic. The Aloo, Mooli and Gobi Parathas are superb. The keema mattar is great. The lassi's are fantastic of course. Don;t forget to try the chai! Delicious!
