The restaurant name was borrowed from the Italian dramatist Luigi Pirandello’s short story titled La Giara. A giara is a jar, typically made of earthenware, that is very common in the Mediterranean area. It has been used for centuries to store olive oil, wine, and grains. It is a beautiful decorative object, which fully embodies the spirit of the Italian agricultural life.
It seemed that a giara would be the perfect symbol of the rustic, genuine world of the Italian peasants from which the cuisine of La Giara takes inspiration.

Emanuel Concas boasts an impressive resume despite his young age. After graduating from the prestigious “Scala di Giocca” Culinary Academy in his native Sardinia, he worked with some of the bright stars of the culinary firmament in Europe. First, Alberto Chincheri of the famed Astoria restaurant on the Garda lake, then Piero Vinci at the Bibis in Leeds, England.
In New York, he honed his skills at the San Pietro and Settemoma. All this traveling reflects in the exuberance of his brilliant cuisine whereas it is a classic execution of such traditional as Strozzapreti alla Vaccinara, oxtail ragout with homemade twisted short pasta, or liberal improvisations as smoked duck breast with sour mango chutney in raspberry vinaigrette.
At the same time, he is continuing the long tradition of regional cooking at La Giara. On any given night here, you can feast on a Baby Octopus Stew with broccoli rabe, Lenticchie from the Amalfi Coast or homemade Gnocchi with nettle and aged ricotta cheese. His great pastry skills bring to life a spongy, lemon-infused polenta cake from Friuli or a superbly textured pear and buffalo ricotta cheese tart. In Concas' kitchen, even a classic panna cotta in mango compote is something to remember.
Bufala Caprese—Bufala milk mozzarella, plum tomato, basil, oregano and extra virgin olive oil
Roasted Pear and Wild Arugula—With endive, dates, roasted pine nuts, and honey in a balsamic reduction
Artichokes and Parmigiano—Artichokes with pistachio nuts and Parmigiano flakes
Sheep Milk Cheese Ravioli—In tomato sauce
Linguine in Almond Pesto—With clams and shrimp
Paglia e Fieno—Green and white tagliolini with mushrooms in light cream sauce
Striped Bass with Grilled Vegetables—Pan roasted in lemon and fennel vinaigrette
I will never order from this place again.....it's been over an hour and a half and my food is STILL not here. When i called to inquire about the food I got the traditional response "it's on its way...should be there shortly". Meanwhile she was lying since she also said she didn't see my order in the kitchen. Thumbs down!

Food was delicious, and the pasta was still al dente! They called me and offered me alternatives when an ingredient wasn't available and were courteous. Delivery also happened much quicker than the estimate. Would definitely order from them again.

La Giara was exceptional. Fresh, fast, reasonably priced, and delicious. Try the penne with sausage and stuffed pork chop.

Great pasta at reasonable prices. Came with nice loaf of fresh bread and fresh parmesan cheese.

the prices were a little high in my opinion (almost 8 dollars for a salad?) but the star-rating was high and they had a discount so i tried it out. i got the calzones - they where cold and parts were rock hard as if they'd been reheated repeatedly over time...i actually cut my gums not anticipating the crust was that hard. the pasta with mushrooms, while cooked okay, lacked flavor. lastly, (and this might be a seamlessweb issue), i ordered food on my way home from work to my apartment which is 2 blocks from la giara - the estimated time was 15-30 minutes...it didn't arrive for a little over an hour. costly, poor quality, slow service earned 1 star.

My boyfriend and i stumbled upon this hole in the wall and have been going on a weekly basis ever since. The food is authentic, delicious and their specials are very creative. The menu is under priced in terms of taste, so dont be fooled. However, when guests join us for dinner, we always seem to have a "bad night" there (in regards to service and food)....so i guess you can say it is hit or miss. The pastas are great, the artichoke salad is by far the best item on the menu (they dont always have it, so be sure to ask), the salmon and the TIRAMISU :)

Good, wholesome, peasant inspired food. ONe of the best italian places I've eaten from. Everything we've had was excellent.

Half hour late with delivery and the pasta was overcooked.

I find that it's hit or miss with this place. I've had food delivered and ate there. The delivery guy that handles my neighborhood (dude with the long hair) always has a miserable look on his face which I'm sure contributes to his "speedy" delivery time. The last time I ate at La Giara, the linguini with clams and shrimp was beyond salty. Here's to hoping they START reading their reviews both here and the one I read in the Times. Place has a lot of potential but seems to be quite full of itself.

The food was really bland and I expected much better from them. I was highly dissappointed and will not be ordering from them anytime again soon.

horrible...they didn't have oj or pineapple juice; my cranberry juice came in a soup bowl. the sauce tasted like it was from spaghetti o

The food is oversalted and overcooked. I have ordered from here three times and every time they have omitted something from my order. The service and food are mediocre at best!

SLOW delivery - took over an hour when they said 25-40min. Food's not worth it - don't bother with this place.

La giara is still very good but their Seafood pasta dish is not what it use to be.

The food is fine but eat at the restaurant and never ever order from there. Delivery takes forever, staff are clueless as to estimated time of arrival. I placed an order and called back an hour after I received the confirmation (with estimated time of arrival 45-60min) only to find out they haven't even started preparing my order.
