Named the “Best Indian Cuisine,” by the editors of New York Magazine and “perhaps the city’s best Indian restaurant,” by Frank Bruni of The New York Times’ Diner’s Journal, Devi celebrates the authentic flavors and spirit of the Indian home, a place where you feel warmth and welcome in every bite. Devi now brings its tantalizing menu to your home or office. Lunch and dinner boxed specials include a choice of one appetizer and one entrée, plus Basmati rice or naan and dal or spinach paneer.
Chefs/owners Suvir Saran and Hemant Mathur recreate authentic regional dishes such as coconut shrimp biryaani and tandoori lamb chops, as well as new classics like shrimp and calamari masala frito misto and masala fried quail. With layer upon layer of tastes and textures, each plate is a journey, from regional street food to family recipes.

Chef and cookbook author Suvir Saran established new standards for Indian food in America when he teamed up with Chef Hemant Mathur, called “the Yo-Yo Ma of tandoor cooking,” by New York Magazine’s Grub Street, to recreate the flavors of the Indian home at the highly acclaimed Devi, which opened in 2004. Pastry Chef Surghi Sahni complements the duo with delectable desserts, such as her ethereal mango cheesecake and irresistible kulfi. Devi departs from the standard Indian fare and introduces diners to pure flavors, unusual ingredients and original preparations.
Located at 8 East 18th Street, Devi is an experience that stimulates and delights – swathed in rich textiles and adorned with brightly colored lanterns and carved wooden temple accents. Devi is also a unique venue for private parties of up to 75 guests. A semi-private balcony can accommodate small meetings or social gatherings of up to 30 guests. With professional catering also available, Devi is serving unmatched Indian cuisine to everyone in Manhattan.

Don't be fooled by delivery time - I ordered from this restaurant as delivery time showed 15-30 minutes. However, the food arrived 70 minutes after I ordered it, and had called the restaurant to check on status. Needless to say, the food was cold by the time it arrived. From a taste perspective, the food was decent, which alleviated the pain a bit.

I don't usually order Indian in, as it is always better at the restaurant. But Devi's food is so good it doesn't matter where you eat it. Daal, coconut curry shrimp and chicken tikka are always great.
