The Croton Reservoir once stood majestically on the site of what is now the New York Public Library and Bryant Park. Described at the time as a “huge rectangular fortress” with 50 foot high walls, the reservoir opened in 1842 to fanfare of “spectacular fountain displays and a 5th avenue parade.” Supplying 35 million gallons a day, the reservoir nurtured the infant New York into becoming the greatest city in the world today.

Featuring a wonderful hand-painted 150 square foot mural of the Reservoir in all its glory, the Croton Reservoir Tavern creates a palpable turn of the century New York experience. The atmosphere is reminiscent of the days of cobblestone streets and horse-drawn carriages. The 50 foot dark oak bar, exposed brick walls, brass studded leather chairs, stained glass, and wrought iron railings lay the backdrop for the warmth, good cheer and home of fine food which is Croton Reservoir Tavern.

Enjoyed already by thousands of guests, Croton Reservoir Tavern will carve its place into this great city’s history and will fuel its life, as once did that majestic 180 million gallon citadel so many years ago.
