Nick Kenner and Rob Crespi were tired of the options available to them for lunch in Midtown Manhattan. So, instead of continuing to settle, they set off to develop a restaurant concept that would serve a healthy, fast and creative alternative. To make sure that Just Salad would serve only the best salads in the world, Nick and Rob sought the expertise of Chef Laura Pensiero.

Already world-renowned for her inventive and nutritious cooking, Chef Laura joined Just Salad after founding Chef4Life, a provider of healthy and delicious solutions for life-long improvements in diet while still stressing the importance of enjoying food. She guaranteed Nick and Rob that Just Salad would stay true to its mission: offering a meal that would be both healthy and delicious. Chef Laura designed the Just Salad menu from front to back, creating twenty-seven unique dressings and eleven enticing combinations of toppings now known as Just Salad's Chef Designed Salads.
In May of 2005, after two years of research and preparation, Just Salad opened its doors to the public on Fifty-First Street and Park Avenue in New York City. It was an immediate sensation. Such a sensation, in fact, that a sister store opened only eight months later at 134 West Thirty-Seventh Street.
Every detail of Just Salad was thought out carefully. Customers enjoy everything from the food to the music to the environmentally friendly bowls. Shipments of fresh ingredients are delivered every morning, so the patrons are kept happy, always knowing that they are getting the freshest possible meal.

Laura Pensiero is the chef and creator of the Just Salad Menu. Laura has worked hard to develop a menu that is healthy, fun and unique.
Laura is a culinary and health professional whose expertise spans a diverse range of the food and health industries. A graduate of the French Culinary Institute, Laura is also a Registered Dietitian, cookbook author, health educator, spokesperson, nutrition and culinary consultant and the proprietor of Gigi Trattoria and Gigi Market in the Hudson Valley.
In founding Chef4Life, Laura has forged a unique path, integrating her knowledge of nutrition with her culinary training and appreciation of food. Her creative flair and practical approach for helping people alter their eating habits and cooking methods has become widely recognized. She co-authored Strang Cancer Prevention Center Cookbook to create healthy, tasty, easy-to-prepare recipes, and was selected as one of O, Oprah Magazine’s most “Gifted and Giving” food professionals in the May 2005 fifth anniversary issue. They don't read and follow "Special Instructions". I ask for Olive Oil & Lemon Juice and I get Lemon Juice ONLY. AAAAAAAggggghh.

I love the salads here - the ingredients are so fresh- the arugula salads are delicious and they have much more variety then the average places. I just wish the delivery time was shorter at lunch- I often order from other places because I dont want to wait 60 minutes for lunchtime delivery

Salads are a major staple of my life and Just Salad is the best NYC salad joint out there. They are so committed to customer service and the quality of their food that I go out of my way to order salads from them rather than settle on another one of the myriad "create-your-own" salad places. Plus, they have such high turn-over of produce that you know the ingredients are fresh. When I re-use my bowl and use my discount card after 2pm, I pay under $8 for a HUGE salad that tastes great! Thank you Just Salad!

really good food (esp for the price). lettuce was crisp and fresh, as were the topping veggies, and other toppings were good quality. lemon vinaigrette was a little bland, but i'll definitely order from here again. nice work, guys!

I am a huge Chop't fan so I thought that I would like Just Salad. There is no comparison. When I got my Just Salad delivery the lettuce was soggy, there was no crunch in the romaine and all of the ingredients looks past their peak. I got cheese in my salad and it was barely chopped up, I was fighting with gigantic cheese chunks the whole time. Overall, not a good experience.

Love the topping selection, and the extensive dressing selection, but this past delivery came in all wrong, with incorrect dressings, not as we ordered, and the bowl was only filled about half way with salad. The maiden lane location has always been good though.

The wait was too long for a salad place and food was TERRIBLE. I got halfway through my turkey wrap and I started to feel nauseous, so I tossed the rest. Don't waste your time or money with this one!! And as far as being Martha Stewart recommended...remember, Martha went to jail people, lol....

They don't follow time instructions. I've ordered things for a specific time and it's always a lot earlier or later than that time. The last two times they delivered my order without the dressing, 40 minutes after I called to let them know, my dressing was delivered, and there was no appology. The food is great but the service is very very bad.

Salad was average, but I bit into something HARD that I thought might be an olive pit. When I spit it out it seemed to be a piece of colored glass. Combined with the fact that my salad took an hour and 15 minutes to arrive and both the receptionist and manager were dishonest with me about where my order was, I will never order from here again. There are simply too many better options.

The food is really quite good - but the delivery times are inexcusable! Also - think twice before making a special request - there is a 50/50 chance you'll have your request granted.

The salads are great but the delivery times are ridiculously long. Considering that the food is not cooked, this restaurant takes twice as long to deliver as other restaurants that are cooking a full meal AND getting the delivery done. Don't order from this place if you're hungry -- order when you're not hungry, and by the time the food arrives, you'll be starving.

I have been ordering from Just Salads consistently for 6 months now. Lately, the quality of the food is just horrible. Just Salad was featured on Martha Stewart as a place to get salads with "freshest ingredients". Why is it then that I pulled a plastic bag out of my salad this afternoon? That doesn't scream fresh ingredients to me. That is just plain gross. The service has also taken a turn for the worse. Today, after waiting almost 2 hours for my delivery (I was quoted 50-65 minutes on seamleassweb), my order was incorrect. When I called to complain, I was greeted by a very impatient, angry woman who placed me on hold for more than 5 minutes before telling me the only way to get a new salad was to wait another hour and return the incorrect one. I will NEVER order from this restaurant again, even though they do have amazing low fat tuna salad :(

My salad that was to have 8 different great things added to it was mostly "Just Salad"....! For the 12.00 I spent for a bowl of green lettuce I could have ordered a Lobster Sandwich somewhere else!

I have ordered from this restaurant two times. The first time, they never delivered my food. The second time, they delivered the wrong order. I am not going to order from them again and I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone.
