Inspired by the strait that connects the Black and Mediterranean seas, this Midtown seafood spot makes a serious bid for authenticity. Dardanel imports all their fish daily from the Mediterranean region, with branzini from Turkey, anchovies from the Black Sea and St. Peter's fish from Israel. There's that distinct taste you only get from the Mediterranean ocean, the fish is a little saltier, requiring very little additional seasoning. Yes, you can get grilled whole anything, but for a more unique spin, try less predictable fare like stuffed flounder, jammed with spinach, sun-dried tomato, green pepper and mushroom.
Aside from the amazing flavors, another huge plus is that everything is affordable, in case those economic jitters might be dampening your appetite. Be sure to try one of Dardanel’s mouthwatering Turkish specials like Sultan's Delight or Manti and you’ll be glad you decided to dine with them!
Eggplant Salad—Grilled eggplant mixed with chopped red and green peppers, dill, garlic, lemon juice and extra virgin olive oil
Octopus Salad—Grilled octopus; served with Romaine lettuce, ripe tomatoes and red onion
Swordfish Shish Kebab—Char-grilled swordfish shish kebab; served with grilled vegetables and rice
Manti—Handmade beef dumplings; served with light yogurt garlic sauce
Salmon Fillet—Brick oven baked basil sauced salmon fillet; served with grilled vegetables
Sultan’s Delight—Slow-cooked beef; served over eggplant purée

I ordered pick up for the first time, and the food was very mediocre and stingy. I ordered a side of roasted potatoes, which is $3.95, and opened the bag to find SIX small pieces of potato. That's nearly $0.70/potato!!! Outrageous!!! Secondly, I ordered a falafel sandwich. The sandwich has no dressing on it, so it was extremely dry, and the falafel, itself was dry and tasted very plain. I am surprised by these good reviews. Makes me wonder who is actually writing them.

good food, but way, way too expensive. Can get same quality much cheaper elsewhere.

My fish was cold by the time it arrived, I had no knife and fork in my bag, I do not recommend this place, particulary given the prices it charges which do not match the quality of the food or the service in my opinion.

This restaurant left out the rice/vegetable part of my order. Very disappointed.

Really wonderful babaganoush and bread. The lamb meatballs were both spicy and juicy. The only downside was the lack or roasted vegetables with the platter.

We decided to try Dardanel when we noticed the 30% discount promotion they were running. We both loved it. The Sultan's Delight is fantastic, don't be turned off by the description if you're not crazy about eggplant, give it a try! Order extra bread, because it's great and only costs a buck. I don't know what they call it, but it's sort of a cross between a pita and bagel. It's thicker and crustier than a pita, but smaller and less stodgy than a bagel. Ours arrived literally hot from the oven. The arugula salad was fresh and also refreshing, with its simple lemon dressing. The falafel sandwich is served in a traditional wrap, not in a pita, and is very good. All together very happy, looking forward to ordering from Dardanel again.
