Recognizing changes in restaurant business trends and customers’ demand for healthy food, Soma by Nature is a new Korean and Japanese restaurant that serves healthy organic foods with fresh vegetables. The dishes are all prepared with simple but flavorful ingredients, such as fresh or sautéed vegetables tossed with flavorful olive oil, herb salt or herb infused vinegars. The restaurant focuses on daily specials, especially such offerings as bibimbap, healthy rice bowls with ingredients changing often so that customers can always enjoy different combinations of the same delicious experience.
Korean restaurants are rare Downtown and because Soma by Nature places such an emphasis on taste and high quality ingredients, ordering from there is a no-brainer.
Soma Bibimbap—Seven daily vegetables with meat or tofu on top
Chicken Teriyaki Box—Grilled chicken breast with teriyaki sauce served with white rice
Healthy Bowl—Chef’s daily choice of vegetables in a bowl with brown rice
BBQ Chicken Special Roll—Japanese BBQ chicken roll with avocado
Tokyo Sushi Combination—Two tuna, two salmon and four California rolls
Japanese Wheat cake—With sweet red bean filling
I was skeptical at first, but after repeatedly being greeted by the sweet manager/owner at the restaurant, I was sold. He recommended the rice and dumplings soup and raved about the beef consomme broth. He was right. It was subtle, delicious, and savory. I do like the request the dumplings on the side for delivery, ecause they get soggy during the transportation. (I would do this if I were to take it back to my office, for example). In addition, a coworker LOVES the JapChae. This place gets high marks. As for being a Korean restaurant, let's call it what it is. It is one of the many places one can get lunch in the financial district. It's my go to place, but if I wanted authentic and meticulous Korean food, I would go to Herald Square. This place is a delicious fast lunch place. Love it.

Good food - horrible service. I have been ordering from these guys for almost two years and they have always at my request included extra kimchi in the soup I order. Today for some reason, they didn't include the kimchi and sent the order without notifying me of the change. When I called to inquire, they declared that it is extra for kimchi. I asked whether this was a new policy and the lady simply insisted it was extra. I told them they would lose a customer as a result and she said, ok thank you very much. I know it is a small point but sort of unbelievable that a place would forego a longtime customer for .50 or whatever they wanted to charge.

Lunch specials are great, but painfully mediocre otherwise at high-than-the-norm prices. Also, we never understand why they are closed on weekends, given the high pedestrian traffic in the area over weekends.

As a korean american I was dissapointed. The meal was overpriced and underwhelming. Usually korean restaurants give complimentary sides to accompany a meal, but there were none and they even charged for kimchee.

Delicious healthy food with a different twist than most of the other restaurants downtown. Restaurant is clean and well-organized, with helpful staff who are happy to explain various dishes or make changes.

The delivery guy brought the food lopsided, so everything in the bento box was mixed up into a disastrous mess. The food looks like it would have been good, but with all the sauces mixed up, I could hardly tell. Also, an request to include hot sauce on the side was completely ignored.

I ordered the Healthy Bowl. It came cold and not fresh. Seemed like food had been sitting there for a while and they just dumped it in a bowl at the last-minute.

I was pretty excited for this food, but unfortunately my meal from Soma was fairly disappointing. The food arrived at the very tail end of the estimated delivery time (around 50 minutes after I ordered midevening) and although the deliveryman was very friendly the food just looked and tasted pretty mediocre. I ordered two things: kimchi & tofu & pork with rice, and pan fried dumplings. The kimchi wasn't fresh (not as in it was fermented, obviously, just that it seemed like it had been sitting in a bowl all day long), and the tofu was like what I get at my college salad bar. The meat wasn't so great, either, and there wasn't much of it. The rice was well cooked though (that doesn't happen everywhere). The dumplings tasted alright, but they were really soggy and not very hot. Overall, definitely not worth $17.50. Sorry guys, but something went wrong here :(
