Shanghai Pavilion sets itself far apart from most Chinese restaurants with its “sleek and modern” décor and upscale dining room. But what draws the large and diverse crowd to this Upper East Side gem is the amazing food.

New York Magazine recommended that readers head to the restaurant for a “fancy Shanghai feast” and the buzz has continued as the restaurant has since been featured in a variety of different articles and on websites – all giving glowing reviews.
Insiders recommend the Peking Duck, the Velvet Sea Bass, and the pork dumplings. You can also try the Beggar’s Chicken; a vegetable stuffed chicken that must be ordered a day in advance. For upscale Chinese, there is no better place!

Don't know why everyone else is rating this so high. This food should cost 7:00 per dish instead of $13-$15 for the quality. Ordered and literally was delivered in 10 minutes when I live at least 10 minutes away from the restaurant.... fast delivery is not always a good thing.

Food came in nice, fancy packaging and came very fast, but the quality was about average, not justified by the prices, really. And the fortune cookie was stale.

I've ordered from Shanghai twice since moving to the UES and both times the service has been friendly and quick. The food is very tasty and arrives hot and fresh. I would definitely recommend the sesame chicken and scallion pancakes and will be ordering from the restaurant again! However, if you need utensils and napkins be sure to request them when ordering.

Chicken was SOOO dry...Lo Mein was SOOOO greasy. And the portions were pretty puny considering the price.

Not the best soup dumplings I've had, but they're still pretty good, and it's the only place I know that delivers them on the UES

Best Chinese on the UES. I've never eaten in the restaurant, but the delivery is fast, and the food is good. The chicken appears to be pieces of actual chicken meat, not blobs of fatty goo like you get from most Chinese places. I will never order Chinese from another restaurant. If Shanghai Pavillion is closed, I will just order Dominos. Seriously, there is no substitute.

My go-to for Chinese food. Nothing great, but definitely fills the void.

Standard Chinese fair, but with minimal flavor. It was on time, however,

Very fast delivery but TINY portions for food that's pretty expensive. I ordered the shrimp and lobster and the dish came with ONE piece of lobster and maybe 4-5 pieces of shrimp for over $20. The delivery was so fast and the food was lukewarm that it makes me wonder whether it was fresh cooked or not.

read the reviews but am very disappointed. ordered wonton soup (too salty, only 2 wontons), juicy pork dumplings (weird vinegar dipping sauce) and the always reliable general tso's - very sweet., dry, not crunchy. best in ues? uhhh

Fresh vegetables. Far better than typical take-out chinese food.
