Looking for traditional Indian cuisine in Greenwich Village? Look no further than Indian Taj on Bleecker Street. Offering great choices of authentic Indian food, both for vegetarians and non-vegetarians, Indian Taj is a special treat for people who love good living and wonderful food!
Indian Taj has a full fledged bar, and a unique ambience that showcases Indian culture. The restaurant is beautifully decorated with antique paintings that display traditional Indian culture and craft. This atmosphere provides a perfect place to relax and enjoy excellent food, along with friendly service. The house specialty is Karahi, which consists of a hearty helping of diced lamb, succulent pieces of baby goat (with bone) or chicken grilled with Himalayan herbs, fresh onions, tomatoes and bell peppers. Karahi is served in a kadai (traditional frying pan) and it is delicious!
Lamb Chops—French cut lamb chops marinated with garlic, ginger and garam masala, then barbecued
Paneer Pasanda—Cubes of cheese seasoned with authentic spices, butter and cream
Chicken La-Jawab—Tender morsels of chicken cooked with ginger, garlic, tomatoes and chiles sprinkled with fresh herbs and spices and cooked in a kadai
Bhuna—Cubes of lamb, beef or goat cooked in fresh bell peppers, onions and tomatoes
Tandoori Shrimp Spinach—Jumbo shrimps marinated in yogurt and spices, barbecued in a charcoal clay oven and prepared with puree of spinach
Fish Tikka Masala—Fish filet marinated in herbs and spices, barbecued in a tandoor and prepared in sauce with garlic, ginger and tomatoes
Very poor quality chicken, hard nan. Would not order again, especially given the cost.

Consistently happy with my delivery. I always order the vegetable samosa to start. The Saag Paneer, Channa Masala and Malai Kofta are the best I've tasted outside a homemade setting. I'm not vegetarian but I love these vegetarian dishes with nan or roti and mango chutney. Great Indian food to go!

The last time, we ordered chicken tikka masala and yesterday I ordered chicken tandoori. The tikka masala looked like good white meat chicken, but it didn't taste marinated - just dry. The tandoori chicken was ok, but again, I was not happy with the quality of the chicken or the way it was prepared. The other times I've eaten here, it was usually something vegetarian. I gave it 3 stars because of the reasonable delivery time and price. I'd only go back to try other dishes (non-chicken).

Awesome.

This was some of the worst Indian food I've ever had. The Chicken Tikka Masala had huge chunks of tasteless dry white meat that certainly could not be considered Chicken Tikka, and the gravy was pretty close to tomato soup. The samosas were bland, and the naan was doughy and tasteless.

One of the best indian dishes I've had in a long time. Absolutely delicious and at only around $9 for the lunch special, just about the best deal around. Came in 20 minutes.

Took over an hour to arrive, was cold on arrival. Garlic naan bread just tasted really odd, like it had been frozen for months and the garlic had somehow changed taste. Chicken Masala was toxic, to look at and to taste, actually it didn't taste anything like tikka masala. Basmati rIce was equally dry, tasteless - nothing like real basmati rice. I know Indian food in New York does not have a good reputation (especially in comparison to England). But this place I'm hoping is at the bottom of the range of options here...

Pretty good, the food arrived quickly and tasted good. It's a little different from the indian food I'm used to, but that may just mean it's more authentic. Either way, I'll be ordering from here again.

This was seriously the worst Indian food I have ever experienced. First the wait was nearly an hour. The food arrived cold and was flavorless. They got the order wrong. The Chicken Tiki Marsala tasted like cheap canned ragu sauce. Saag tasted like cream spinach. All around dissapointment. Never again.

Not good - I especially don't recommend the chana sag. And the papadam were a little burnt.

food is economical and delicious. Also frills like papad and sauces is also comendable.

Indian Taj gets my vote for the best indian food in the neighborhood. The staff couldn't be any nicer or more attentive. They're so attentive that they're bordering on annoying, but I love those guys! My favorites are the palak paneer and the chicken tikka massala. Great for delivery too!
