The creative forces behind Woo Lae Oak are molding and styling Korean cuisine without limits, bringing progressive Korean to Midtown at Bann. The slightly hidden entrance inside the Worldwide Plaza opens onto a chic, dark lounge and restaurant. Specks of warm candlelight bouncing off suspended silk screens and flickering flames from the smokeless barbeque grills illuminate its sleek, hand crafted copper bar and marble tables.

Only the menu surpasses the elegant and cool ambiance, as it is hand stitched on leather scrolls and showcases a few Woo Lae Oak favorites among a variety of Korean inspired dishes. The dining experience at Bann is the culmination of nearly twenty years of experimenting and refining Korean cuisine, which has taken traditional to nouveau, then to creative and finally progressive.

Some of the food is pricey for what it is (e.g. $15 for fried rice). Some of the food does not taste as authentically Korean as you would expect. The fried rice tastes like Chinese fried rice and doesn't have the variety of additional ingredients that Korean fried rice would have. The spicy pork was very dry. The japchae is good though. And the delivery service is timely enough. Maybe the food is better in the restaurant. Overall, the place is just ok if you're REALLY craving Korean food in this area.

I love the food at this restaurant... Lunchboxes are a great deal and their barbeque is such good quality. I order from them at least once a week and they are probably one of my favorite restaurants in the city.

I absolutely adore this restaurant!!! It's a hidden gem in Midtown and their food never disappoints. On a cold day this is definitely the place to get a soup and tasty barbeque.

Very little panchan or condiments accompany the food

I tried it twice, and it was AWFUL for delivery. Save Bann for a dining in experience. I love going there, but I will never order from Bann again on seamless. The simmered black cod sank. There is nothing worse than ordering, getting delivery, and then having to run across the street for a slice. What a waste of time, money, and food.

Incredibly inconsiderate service. Sent me the wrong dish and refused to fix it.

This is the worst korean food i have ever tasted. I dont think the chef has actually even tried korean food, it is so way off the mark. The food is way way over priced. The same price dish is half the price on 32nd street koreatown and 4x the same price of the same dish in korea. The service was horrible. The food took 45minutes to get here. The delivery guy had a horrible attitude. Horrible horrible customer service. Please do not order from here. I do not usually write bad reviews but I felt I had to warn everybody.

Best Korean take-out in this area

The ingredients are fresh and high-quality, and some of the offerings are imaginative. Unfortunately, I find the food disappointingly flavorless. It's not so much that the heat is toned down for a non-Korean palate--it's that the food is just bland, lacking the bold, pungent flavors that characterize Korean cooking.
