Mouhamad Shami founded Alfanoose in 1999 in New York City’s Financial District. Shami is a lover of authentic Middle Eastern cuisine and a purist at heart, so when he couldn't find a restaurant in New York that prepared true Syrian and Lebanese food as he knew it, he created Alfanoose! p>

He discovered that most restaurants would offer their falafel dripping with oil, and served their shawarma with non-marinated meat. He also noticed that the main principle for creating good falafel – lightly fried in fresh oil – was often ignored by many restaurants due to the high cost of replenishing the oil in the fryer.
He decided to offer New Yorkers a taste of authentic, healthy Middle Eastern food – an alternative to the commercial variety found on corner stands, or in other neighborhoods in the city. Today, Mouhamad, along with the help of his wife Miram, runs a larger and more elegant Alfanoose at their new location at 8 Maiden Lane.
Rain or shine, loyal customers line up around the block to eat their favorite dish. Mouhamad rolls the falafel in a way that sets it apart from all the rest. Alfanoose means “brings luck to whoever carries the magic lantern”. Treat yourself to the authentic cuisine of Alfanoose. Miram and Mouhamad guarantee that you will taste the difference.

I would think twice about trying this place. My estimated delivery time was 15-30 minutes, it showed up in an hour. Being a little late is ok, but 2-4x as long as expected is not. I ordered the lamb shwarma sandwich, which was hard to judge considering it was cold by the time it reached me, although I think it would have been average even if warm. Baklavah was good, not great.

I tried this for a 2nd time and really enjoyed the chicken and lamb kebabs. The baklava is excellent, too.

Everything about this place is excellent. From the tasty Falafel platter and sandwiches, to the amazing kebabs. Very tasty, great value, and a great choice for a hangover cure. *****

Delivery is incredibly slow and they don't always answer their phone when you call to follow up.

Confusion with the delivery person (the restaurant's fault) resulted in food not arriving for more than an hour. It arrived cold and unappetizing and the restaurant refused to give us a break on the price. Will not order again.

The lamb shawarma sandwich is v. good, especially with the addition of hummus inside. The fried cauliflower is different and a tasty side. I like the fresh, homemade taste and the non-greasiness of the food.

very bad with delivery times. - Exceptionally bad as compared to peers. Food at this place is great, but after ordering, it always has taken more than 50/55 mins to get here. So if you plan to have food by noon, please order by 11.00 AM The quality of the delivery has gotten worse over time. The delivery guy does not call, leaves the food at the security without informing. Worst! - once the guy left the food at the building loading dock!! When called - the people on the phone were very rude.

HORRIBLE ,, iam sure all those five star reviews are fake,, let me save your money ! ,, i ordered lamb shawarma and side order of falafel balls and namora ,, i threw out that disgusting lamb shawarma,, i had it delivered to my work place, the whole pita and sauces and meat and onion and lettuce everythin was ice cold,, i asked for extra sauce so they decided to pour a whole lot that when i opened the foil it spilled ova,,, the lettuce was bitter and the sauce was too much of yuck and the lamb was like ice cold and dried pieces of meat with no flavor,, i spit it out, ,, now the falafel balls,, comparatively to the shawarma it was much better it was semi-warm,,and chruncy still,, the taste was average,, but i specifically asked for sauce but there was none given,,now for the namora,, was old ,, maybe ancient ,, i had to spit and wash for so long for that taste to get out of my message ,, the two stars are for one falafel and one for prompt delivery ,, zero stars for taste

Whoever gave this place 5 stars must work there. The food was average at best. The pita bread was cold, and everything was borderline below average.

Not too well cooked falafel, but the sauce with it is incredible. Lamb was perfectly seasoned and the pita is fantastic. I highly recommend.

Considering all the crappy food downtown, this is pretty good. The pita was cold and wrapped in tin foil, but the hummus, stuffed grape leaves and falafel were top notch. Delivered in an amazing 15 mins, but I ordered at 5:45pm, a slow time. Good pickles too, food was like two meals worth.

Oh my god, sooo much food and I only ordered the Veg Combination Platter. It was raining the day I ordered and the containers got a bit wet but none of the water got inside. Food was still warm when I got it which is a plus. It was definitely a steal considering how much food you get -- I couldn't even finish it all. I will definitely order again.

This is the freshest food in downtown mahattan. I absolutely loved it. Keep in mind there is a long line so you are better off ordering on line. This place is not much to look at, line is long but food is FANTASTIC.

I used to enjoy ordering from Alfanoose. The food is delicious. However, tonight the delivery took over an hour and when I recived the food it was all shaken up and all over the place. Tastes good but is a waste of my time.

VERY good food, but a little pricey and delivery always takes a while. Hummus and Falafels are excellent.

The mixed lamb and chicken Shawerma is phenomenal. Falafel is amazing, just the way it should be done. Sandwiches are stuffed and very satisfying. Little pricey but worth it!
